Business

  • Joint discussion with GE Governance Board, CENG faculty and CAFES faculty to review possible ways to reduce/double count GE units in a variety of majors.
  • Any curricular changes that are approved will have to go through the campus curricular process including approval by the Academic Senate.
  • Chancellor's office wants a report on reductions made in high-unit majors by January 2014.
  • Ideas by CENG and CAFE to review a collection of courses to meet GE Learning Outcomes
Concerns with the time it would take to develop and effective program that would include assessment - Governance Board did not feel that this would be an immediate solution but would like to explore it further.
Concern with GE substitution problems on this type of courses (There are approximately 600-700 GE substitutions per month.)
  • Idea presented to possibly embed GE Learning Outcomes in Senior Project Classes
  • Proposal will be coming in the fall from ARCE regarding C4 (Upper-division Arts and Humanities elective)
  • Idea presented to developing new courses in D2 and D4, allowing Engineering to double-count these lower-division areas.
  • Ideas presented for faculty from OCOB/CENG to possibly develop a new Economics course, or PSYC/ENG or BIO/ENG or KINE/CAFES to develop new D4 (Lifelong Learning, Self Development) courses
  • Will there be any resources available to develop these courses over the summer? (Possible curricular review during fall 2013)
  • Josh Machamer, Chair will be writing a draft of the recommendations for review by GE Governance Board.
